Introduction

The “Creative Arts Therapies” is a collective term used to cover the four distinct professions of:

  • Music Therapy
  • Art Therapy
  • Drama Therapy
  • Dance-Movement Therapy

Each of theses distinct professions have their own post-graduate level training which includes clinical practice in a variety of health an special needs units, therapeutic theory and personal therapy.

To register with IACAT for the first time follow the questions and directions listed.

Is your training included in the ‘IACAT Approved Trainings in Ireland and Northern Ireland’ list on the training page?

If yes then please use the ‘Application for full Membership’ form and return it with your remittance, enclosing copies of diplomas obtained.

If no  you may still apply to become an accredited member by providing the information requested below.

Please note: All applications are processed on an individual basis by comparing the level and content of the training course with reference to our standards for proficiency. The registration Panel is made up of professionals who volunteer their time. It meets at set times throughout the year.  Deadlines for all materials to be sent in for assessment are set to allow enough time before a meeting for members of the panel to go over materials to be assessed. Deadlines for the current year have now past. From now on the dates for the year will be posted on this website. Next dates will be available after the next IACAT AGM in Oct. Applications can be submitted between meetings. They are dealt with on a first come first served basis, and if a large number of applications are received before a given meeting those further down the list may have to be assessed at the next scheduled meeting. All materials should be posted together and in time for deadlines.

Any queries about the process should be emailed for the attention of the Registration Panel

To begin the process of becoming a full accredited member with IACAT it is necessary to submit the following information:

VERIFICATION INFORMATION (for details see Appendix 1)

  1. Proof of membership in an equivalent professional body (National Professional Association) in the country where you completed your training (e.g. national music therapy association, art therapy association, dramatherapy association or dance-movement therapy association).
  2. A copy of the award of training - diplomas etc.
  3. Contact details of the training institute & course director

COURSE CONTENT - transcript details required (See Appendix 2)

  5. Theoretical components: Module titles (e.g. psychology, arts therapies theory, psychotherapy etc.) and hours completed.

IACAT can only base its decision on the information provided by the applicant, their referees, their training institutions and any education, training or experience provided in the application. If the materials are incomplete, they
will not be assessed, rather w
e will return them and await a complete application. Arrival of materials past a deadline will mean postponing assessment
until the next scheduled meeting.

English Language proficiency
The ability to communicate effectively in English is critical to working effectively as a Creative Arts Therapist in Ireland. Consequently we may ask you for information about your ability to use English. We will always do this for international applicants unless English is used as a first language.
